Quick select previously selected elements by pressing CTRL+Left Arrow on the keyboard. Note that this doesn’t work if you deselected the elements by using ESC.
Instead, deselect elements by using the cursor to click in a blank part of the project. Then you will always be able to reselect previous elements using the shortcut keys.
