Back in 2014 most users thought Autodesk’s Design Review product had reach end of life. And rightly so. Given Autodesk’s inventments in cloud technologies like A360 and BIM 360, what place was there for a desktop product? Moving forward to 2017, there is no doubt the cloud is a strong contender for the longer term environment of design collaboration. This is regardless of product or vendor.

But in a suprise move Autodesk Design Review has been granted a breath of new life. Understanding that not all users have yet migrated from desktop to cloud, or possibly can’t, use of Design Review continues.

The main reason for this release is to provide proper support for Windows 10. Some leading analytics companies are reporting that Windows 10 adoption is approaching 25%. And while 25% is not huge, it’s large enough to warrant providing short term support.

But Design Review’s days are still numbered. Included in this release are buttons to bring awareness to users of Autodesk’s cloud collaboration offerings. A clear sign that Design Review will be phased out at some time in the future.
