The Spacebar key is great for rotating/mirroring elements, either before or after you have placed them.
e.g.
Start the Column tool and before you click...
Options bar toggles
While using tools such as Copy, Move, Mirror, Rotate, Offset, & Align, holding CTRL and/or Shift with toggle the options on the Options Bar.
